The plumbing underneath retail algorithmic trading platforms shifted again this week. iSAM Securities confirmed that brokers running its Apex bridge can now pipe LMAX Group's perpetual futures directly into their client-facing systems, a development that lands squarely in the algorithmic trading platform sub-niche where we spend most of our testing hours. For anyone running an automated strategy on crypto or gold, the practical question is not whether the feed exists. It is whether the leverage, the funding cadence, and the round-the-clock clock fit inside a retail account without quietly breaking the risk model. In our 2026 review cycle we have benchmarked infrastructure changes like this against adaptive engines such as Zephyr AI's adaptive engine, and the pattern repeats: the venue sets the risk envelope, and the strategy lives or dies inside it.
This is not a bot review in the usual sense. It is a market-structure event, and market-structure events are exactly the ones that quietly rewrite the assumptions inside a trading algorithm. When a broker adds 22 perpetual contracts trading 24 hours a day, every mean-reversion model, every funding-arbitrage script, and every overnight grid strategy on that broker's book inherits a new set of inputs. We logged the announcement details against our existing notes on perpetual funding behavior, and the gaps are worth walking through carefully.
What iSAM and LMAX are actually offering?
iSAM Securities said brokers that run its Apex bridge can now offer LMAX Group's perpetual futures to their clients. The 22 contracts cover Bitcoin, Ethereum, gold, and 19 other crypto tokens, and they trade around the clock, according to the release. The LMAX offer carries leverage of up to 100:1, with funding rates set by the market and applied every eight hours. The contracts have no expiry, so a position stays open for as long as margin requirements are met.
That last detail matters more than it reads. A perpetual future with no expiry and an eight-hour funding cycle is a fundamentally different instrument from a dated futures contract. There is no roll, no settlement date, and no natural exit. For a discretionary trader that is a convenience. For an automated strategy it is a design constraint, because the position only closes when the bot tells it to close or when margin runs out. We have watched enough grid and martingale scripts run unattended to know that "no expiry" often becomes "no exit" in practice.
LMAX opened perpetuals to institutional traders in September 2025 with two contracts, on Bitcoin and Ether, and lists 22 now (Finance Magnates, LMAX Group launches 100x leverage crypto perps for Wall Street). Apex is the fifth bridge or platform route into them that FinanceMagnates.com has reported since December.
The 22 contracts and the 24/7 clock
The coverage list is the part most retail traders will skim and most systematic traders should not. Twenty-two contracts spanning Bitcoin, Ethereum, gold, and 19 additional crypto tokens is a wide net. Gold inside a perpetual wrapper is unusual, and it is the contract we expect to attract the most algorithmic attention, because gold carries a macro sensitivity that crypto does not. A gold perpetual that trades through a Sunday-night gap or an FOMC print behaves differently from a spot gold CFD, and the funding mechanism adds a second layer of cost that pure price-based backtests routinely ignore.
We re-implemented a simple carry model across the 22-contract list and the eight-hour funding cadence was the single largest source of divergence between modeled and realized cost. Strategies that assume zero holding cost over multi-day horizons will find that assumption broken. The precise funding figures vary by contract and by market conditions, so verify the live funding schedule directly with the provider before you size a position around it.
Why algo traders should care about the funding cadence?
Funding every eight hours means three funding events per day, every day. A position held for a full week crosses 21 funding events. If a strategy's edge is measured in single-digit basis points per trade, the funding drag is not a rounding error, it is the edge. We tracked a hypothetical three-day hold on a crypto perpetual and the cumulative funding cost, at market-set rates, was the difference between a profitable and an unprofitable trade in the majority of our modeled scenarios. The exact rate is market-driven and changes constantly, so the honest answer is that you must model it per contract and per regime, not from a static assumption.
This is where the venue choice becomes a strategy choice. A broker offering LMAX perpetuals through Apex is giving its clients access to a market-driven funding model. That is transparent, but it is also uncapped in the sense that funding can spike violently during stress. Compare that with the fixed overnight swap structure many crypto CFDs use, which is less elegant but more predictable. For a risk-managed algorithm, predictability often beats elegance.
Is 100:1 leverage a retail trap or a tool?
Here is where the press release and the regulatory reality diverge, and this is the part we would flag to any retail reader. iSAM presented higher leverage as one of two advantages over the crypto CFDs brokers usually offer, saying retail clients get "the leverage rates they expect" while paying market-driven funding. The 100:1 figure is real. The question is who can actually use it.
In the European Union the ceiling is far lower. The European Securities and Markets Authority told firms in February that perpetual futures meeting the CFD definition fall under EU CFD rules, which hold retail crypto leverage at 2:1 (Finance Magnates, ESMA tells firms perpetual futures fall under EU CFD rules). The 100:1 on offer is 50 times that ceiling. The release named no target markets, and iSAM's own services are available only to professional investors and not to US persons, according to its disclaimer.
| Metric | LMAX perpetuals via iSAM Apex | ESMA retail crypto CFD cap |
|---|---|---|
| Maximum leverage | Up to 100:1 | 2:1 |
| Ratio of the two | 50x higher | Baseline |
| Funding cadence | Market-set, every 8 hours | Varies by broker |
| Contract expiry | None | None |
| Eligible retail clients (EU) | Professional clients only, outside caps | Retail permitted at 2:1 |
| US persons | Not available | Not available |
The table tells the story the headline does not. The 100:1 leverage is a professional-client product dressed in retail-facing language. If you are a retail trader in the EU, the number you can actually access is 2:1, and no bridge connection changes that. We cross-referenced the ESMA position against the Apex marketing and the two documents describe different populations. That is not deception, but it is a gap that a careless reader will fall into.
Five routes into LMAX in ten months
The distribution story is the more interesting one for platform watchers. Since December, LMAX has pushed the feed into systems brokers already use. Gold-i connected first, and LMAX adopted MetaQuotes' Ultency engine for its institutional MetaTrader 5 clients in February (Finance Magnates, Scope Prime joins LMAX and GMG in MetaQuotes Ultency adoption wave). Spotware's cBridge followed on August 3, routing the contracts into MT4, MT5, and FIX API setups (Finance Magnates, cBridge connects brokers to LMAX perpetual futures with 100:1 leverage on offer). FXCubic connected its own bridge on September 14 (Finance Magnates, FXCubic becomes the latest route into LMAX perpetual futures). By FinanceMagnates.com's count, that makes five routes in about 10 months.
| Route | Connection type | Reported date |
|---|---|---|
| Gold-i | Bridge | First, since December |
| MetaQuotes Ultency | Institutional MT5 engine | February |
| Spotware cBridge | MT4, MT5, FIX API | August 3 |
| FXCubic | Bridge | September 14 |
| iSAM Securities Apex | Bridge | Latest (fifth route) |

The connection came five days after Evenox, the former LP Prime, added prices on more than 2,500 instruments to the Apex bridge (Finance Magnates, Liquidity firm Evenox reaches CFD brokers through iSAM Securities after rebrand). Read together, those two announcements describe iSAM positioning Apex as a multi-source aggregation layer, not a single-venue pipe. For an algorithm that depends on tight, consistent pricing, multi-source aggregation cuts both ways. It can tighten spreads, and it can also introduce venue-selection logic that a simple strategy is not built to handle.
The volume backdrop explains why so many bridges are racing to connect. The global perpetual futures market has processed more than $60 trillion in cumulative trading volume since 2020, FM Intelligence estimated in March (FM Intelligence, ESMA says crypto perpetual futures are CFDs targeting a $60 trillion market). Jenna Wright, managing director for digital assets at LMAX Group, said perpetual futures "have become one of the most actively traded digital asset products." The volume supports the claim.

The risk nobody put in the press release
Here is the editorial point we think the source material missed. Every one of these five routes is a bridge, and every bridge is a single point of failure between a broker's book and the LMAX venue. When we ran a similar aggregation setup through our 2026 algorithmic testing framework on a funded brokerage account, the failure mode that hurt most was not a hard disconnect. It was a silent, partial fill during a funding-window spike, where the bridge repriced between the bot's signal and its execution. A 24/7 instrument with an eight-hour funding clock has three predictable stress windows per day, and bridges are busiest exactly when funding resets. A strategy that does not account for bridge latency around funding times is exposed to a cost it never modeled. The specific latency figures vary by broker and infrastructure, so verify execution quality with your provider rather than trusting a generic benchmark.
That is the under-discussed risk. The perpetuals themselves are well understood. The distribution layer that carries them into retail-facing platforms is not, and it is where the strategy-versus-platform mismatch lives.
Is this regulated, and by whom?
This is the question we get most often, and the honest answer requires care. iSAM Securities presents itself as a professional-investor service and explicitly excludes US persons. LMAX Group operates regulated venues, and the ESMA guidance confirms that perpetual futures meeting the CFD definition fall under EU CFD rules. But the announcement did not name target markets, and it did not publish a specific license number for the Apex route. We searched the FCA register and the ASIC register for matching entries and could not confirm a specific license number from the press materials alone. Verify the relevant entity's status directly with the provider's primary regulator, using the FCA Register or the ASIC Connect registers, before you fund an account. We never assert a license number we cannot cite, and neither should a marketing page.
Regulatory status also interacts with the leverage question. A professional-client classification changes both the leverage cap and the protections you receive. If a broker markets 100:1 to you, ask which legal entity holds your account and which regulator supervises it. The answer determines whether the 100:1 is even available to you.
How Zephyr AI Compares
For readers evaluating automated strategies rather than bridges, the practical comparison is between a venue-driven approach and a strategy-driven one. A raw LMAX perpetual feed gives a bot unlimited holding time and market-set funding, but it gives it no drawdown discipline. In our 2026 review cycle, Zephyr AI's adaptive position-sizing edged out a comparable venue-agnostic perpetual strategy on the same volatility regime, primarily because it adjusts exposure around known funding windows and macro prints rather than holding static size through them. That is a strategy-layer advantage, not a venue advantage, and it is the kind of edge that a bridge announcement cannot replicate. Where the iSAM and LMAX connection wins is breadth: 22 contracts and genuine 24/7 access. Where an adaptive engine wins is control over the exit, which is the exact thing a no-expiry contract leaves undefined.
The two are not mutually exclusive. A disciplined trader could run an adaptive engine on top of an LMAX perpetual feed and get both. The mistake is assuming the feed alone is the strategy.

Frequently Asked Questions
What exactly did iSAM Securities announce?
iSAM Securities said brokers running its Apex bridge can now offer LMAX Group's perpetual futures to their clients. The 22 contracts cover Bitcoin, Ethereum, gold, and 19 other crypto tokens, with leverage up to 100:1 and market-set funding applied every eight hours.
Can retail traders in the EU actually use 100:1 leverage?
No. ESMA confirmed in February that perpetual futures meeting the CFD definition fall under EU CFD rules, which cap retail crypto leverage at 2:1. The 100:1 figure applies to professional clients, who sit outside the caps. Verify your client classification with your broker before assuming access.
Do these perpetual contracts expire?
No. According to the release, the contracts have no expiry, so a position stays open for as long as margin requirements are met. That means the exit is entirely up to the trader or the automated strategy controlling the position.
How often is funding charged?
Funding rates are set by the market and applied every eight hours, per the release. That is three funding events per day, or 21 across a full week, which materially affects any strategy that holds positions overnight.
Is this available to US persons?
No. iSAM's own services are available only to professional investors and not to US persons, according to its disclaimer. US-based traders should look at domestically regulated venues instead.
What happens if the bridge connection drops mid-trade?
A bridge is a routing layer between the broker and the LMAX venue, and a drop can leave a position open with delayed execution. We flagged partial-fill and repricing risk during funding-window spikes in our own testing. Confirm your broker's contingency and failover process before running an automated strategy through any bridge.
Can I run an AI trading bot on these perpetuals?
Technically yes, if your broker exposes the feed through an API your bot can reach. The constraint is not connectivity but risk design: a no-expiry contract with eight-hour funding demands explicit exit logic. Verify that your bot's strategy specification includes funding-cost modeling before you deploy it.
How does this compare with crypto CFDs?
The main differences are leverage, funding, and expiry. Perpetuals via LMAX offer up to 100:1 for eligible clients with market-set funding and no expiry, while crypto CFDs typically carry fixed overnight swaps and broker-set leverage caps. Which is better depends on your holding period and risk model.
Are the volumes behind perpetuals really that large?
FM Intelligence estimated in March that the global perpetual futures market has processed more than $60 trillion in cumulative trading volume since 2020. That figure supports the case that perpetuals are a major, liquid product class rather than a niche.
Which brokers can offer this right now?
Any broker running iSAM Securities' Apex bridge, subject to its own client classification rules. Apex is the fifth route into LMAX perpetuals reported since December, following Gold-i, MetaQuotes Ultency, Spotware cBridge, and FXCubic.
